Practical guidance for professionals living with chronic illness

Hello
I’m Elma – a working professional living with rheumatoid arthritis.
This site exists because after my diagnosis I struggled to find resources that addressed chronic illness in the context of real professional life.
Most information fell into two extremes:
clinical explanations with little day-to-day application or motivational advice that ignored the realities of fatigue, pain and unpredictable symptoms.
Neither helped me manage work, energy and long-term health in a sustainable way.
So I started building my own systems.
Why lived experience matters here
Living with rheumatoid arthritis isn’t just about managing symptoms – it affects how you work, plan, think and make decisions. Especially when you’re trying to stay engaged in a career.
Everything shared on this site is shaped by lived experience with RA supported by research and tested against real-world constraints like deadlines, meetings, low-energy days and long-term uncertainty.
This isn’t medical advice and it isn’t aspirational wellness content. It’s practical guidance designed to be used in everyday life.
My approach
This site is grounded in a few core principles:
- Practical over perfect – systems must work on bad days not just good ones
- Sustainability over pushing through – short-term effort means nothing without long-term health
- Clarity over overwhelm – clear explanations beat endless options
- Realism over positivity – chronic illness is part of the equation not something to ignore
These principles shape how I write, what I share and what I intentionally leave out.
Who this site is for
This site is for professionals who:
- are managing chronic illness while working full-time or in demanding roles
- want realistic strategies rather than generic wellness advice
- are looking for ways to protect their health without giving up their careers
If you’re looking for medical treatment advice or purely inspirational content this site may not be the right fit.
How to start
If you’re new here the best place to begin is the Start Here page.
It will point you to the most useful posts based on your biggest challenges—work, energy management or understanding RA and chronic illness more clearly.
If you’d prefer ongoing guidance, you can also join the newsletter for practical strategies and tools designed for real schedules and real limitations.
Final note
Notice what’s not here:
- no trauma narrative
- no exaggerated claims
- no ‘thriving despite everything’ language
That’s intentional. It signals competence, not performance.
